WELL.

Vacation's a vacation and all that. Okay so maybe technically it was a date. A 6 week long date. Technically, although really does a date only end when you come back and drop the girl back off in her room? Well, just next to her closet in this case. Anyway, whatever it was... vacation, extended date, or just a date followed by five or six unrelated outings to various points in time and space... saving civilizations, fishing.. normal stuff that's much better than Texas. I'm back.

Of course, I had permission for this little vacation ahead of time... but unfortunately the paperwork got lost on this end. Okay so maybe my advance permission was just psychic paper but we do what we have to do. Long story short, I'm to understand my students have had quite a string of substitute teachers.. and have a bit of catching up to do. After all, I've been gone nearly a whole marking period. No bother, crash course in physics.. crash course.. that gives me an idea for a field trip. Will have to see if I can make that happen! It's a shame we I can't take that field trip just a short timetrip down the road though... that would be quite a field trip! To be there at the moment the Higgs Boson is discovered! AH! I'm off topic.

So! If you are in one of my classes, high school physics or history, you'll know who you are. You're the blokes who have had all the subs. Be prepared to buckle down and get right into the meat of it first thing tomorrow! The Doctor is in. Can't you smell the learning about to happen?

Well, I'm looking forward to bright faces eager to learn! At least, that's what I expect to see once classes start up. Bright, eager faces! And if you aren't bright and eager I might just have to remedy that--you've been warned! For those of you too lazy to look at your class schedules closely enough, I'm teaching Physics and History at the high school level. If you're in there, you may or may not have the pleasure of my instruction!

Rose Tyler. We've made arrangements for a certain four letter (edit: d-a-t-e for those of you with minds that stray) word you seem to think I have trouble mentioning. Tomorrow evening, was it?

Okay, so we went out for a drink but we ended up back in the TARDIS. Showed Jamie some of the newer equipment. Things get replaced and upgraded over the span 500 years, after all. You know, though, I'd almost say the old girl remembers him in spite of all she's been through.

Say, Rose? I'm thinking about changing the decor a bit. How about giving me some input? I'll even show you the old secondary control room. What do you say.. could be fun, right?

On another note, school starts up again before too long. I hope all you students are ready, particularly if you're taking Physics! Hoping for a fun year.

Well now. That was a nice vacation, although not really. Don't remember leaving and don't rightly remember coming back, or where I went. SO! What I've been doing is reading over the backlogs from the journals and looking at the evidence left behind.

It seems something very interesting has happened. For starters somebody has modified my TARDIS in quite an ingenious way and if I may toot my own horn I must say only I could have thought of it. The trouble is I never actually did think of it, at least not that I remember. Furthermore, it seems this same somebody, who could only have been me, has refilled my fluid link with the wrong amount of liquid mercury, moved it, and put it back in backwards. Why? The best I can figure from their.. my.. perspective, it was right. It would've been right a few hundred years ago, but as it stands now the old girl is in need of a few repairs. Nothing I can't handle given the right materials... enough about that.

Somebody has changed my desktop theme on the TARDIS. What is this, coral?

It seems that something has gone on here. Bit of a memory crisis, is it? Now now that won't do... that won't do at all! Although I do have my habit of landing into trouble, don't I? Call it a series of pleasant surprises.

Well, I guess it's best to introduce myself--seeing as how I've managed to log my way into your little... well your little message system here. Never did like computing machines but for something like this there really is no good replacement. Now that I think on it, logging in was a little too easy. If I didn't know better I'd say I already had an account! Oh dear I do hope I'm not borrowing somebody else's... that would be a bit of a surprise for that person wouldn't it? Oh good heavens I've forgotten to properly introduce. Now, I'm the Doctor... and well I suppose that's all there is to that. I trust nobody will mind if I squat a bit and work out what's gone on with my, well, let's just say my transportation. Some of my controls seem to have moved as well...

Most people seem to have pulled through. Human spirit always outlasts the forces of tyranny. It's a shame though, I never like to see things end in violence. If only there had been more chance to talk things out. Of course there's no reasoning with some people, but one should never have to say they didn't try. All of those poor people... used, addicted, tossed aside. Given time we probably could have cured them. There just wasn't enough time.

Ah well, so it goes, as they say. If anybody needs me you should know how to find me.

[ Pages rustle as the Doctor has recovered his journal. ]

Well then, psychic paper still intact... still functioning as a journal network?

[ Pages rustle again as the Doctor skims the journal pages that have been created in his absence. Curious 'hmm' type noises can be heard as he evaluates his situation. Somebody knocked him out, and that same somebody made sure he didn't have access to his psychic paper. He'd found it by luck behind the rubbish bin outside of the closet. Having been unconscious for the better part of two days, he is determined not to make the same mistake of being caught off gaurd again. ]

Well then! [ The electronic whirl of the sonic screwdriver is heard ] We'll just lock this closet back up.. wouldn't want to leave it open and advertise that I'm out.. [ The Doctor remains unaware that his journal is active. He never got a proper chance to explore the workings of the new system before he was taken out. More rustling can be heard as the Doctor moves along, sneaking a bit, and reads more from the journal.. ] Oooh.. now this is interesting. This is very interesting..

[ The motion suddenly stops and the Doctor presses against the wall. He's heard somebody coming and finds himself near the kitchen. Not wanting to be found, since somebody obviously wanted him out of the way, he looks around for a place to hide. He finds the pantry locked. A brief rustle and whir later the Doctor has unlocked the door with his sonic screwdriver and slips inside the pantry. He locks it again before looking around to find he's not alone. ]

Hello... who's this?

Fancy my surprise suddenly the psychic paper has quite a lot to say. Network goes down, paper starts up with loads of messages. Bit more than that, though, isn't it? For starters, you're reading this and that's something new. Sending and receiving this volume of information over something like psychic paper requires something extraordinary. So where did these new paper journals come from, hmm? Answer that and I think some mysteries of the universe--or at least this little corner of it--will be solved.

Jamie:
I never got a chance to reply to you before the network went down, but I assume you've got a journal, too. Everybody else seems to have one and there's no reason for me to think you aren't included in that. You wanted an update: Rose and I have been conducting our own little investigation. My projection theory for the sky wasn't far off. There's definitely something else projecting itself onto the Academy... and we do in fact seem to be sealed in. What that something is... well the city of Rapture, apparently. Never heard of it--that's a bit of a shocker.

While this Jack person leads his band of merry men in search of keys or what have you, Rose and I have been trying to get to the root of things. Don't get me wrong the mission sounds worthy indeed--but doesn't it feel just a bit... orchestrated? We'll let them handle that in any case.

You know I think I might just fancy a word with this Atlas fellow...

PS: .. OH! Jamie--stay safe and keep an eye on Victoria for me? That's a good chap. Glad to hear you're safe--I might swing by later. These splicers... It's a tragedy. Violent, brutal, completely mad. Lost their minds--We've been able to avoid direct conflict for the most part by staying well out of the way, so tell Victoria to stop worrying.

Doctor out!

Rose Tyler!

How's about a little investigating? Hmm? It seems mere curiosities of last night have revealed themselves to be decidedly dangerous--so hows about you join me on a bit of poke around, put our noses where they don't belong, you know... what generally tends to be 'our thing'?

So here I am, back and settled into a new quad room. Sorry again to Miss Garnet for the bit of a missed landing, and thanks for the coffee. Bit late but it took me this long to get around settled in and writing here. I suppose I owe you.

Right, so, popped off for what was supposed to be a few hours and left for, well, it was far too long anyway. Good news is I'm still on for the teaching thing (and I helped Rose get re-enrolled as well)--So Professor John Smith once again, imparter of knowledge in physics and history. Actually it's Doctor John Smith, but please--just "Doctor" is preferred. To anybody I didn't meet before, howdy-do. To anybody I met before but forgot me, greetings. Aaand to anybody I've never met, well, here I am at last.

Well then, suppose I have some settling in to do yet. Listen to that... settling in. That doesn't sound like me at all. Just going to leave most of my stuff in the TARDIS anyway..

Weell. Back from my trip that I must admit took a bit longer than expected. I wonder why the TARDIS has been off lately.. I'd tell you all about my trip but it's a really long story that I don't care to get into right now. Rose, sorry you couldn't come, but you would've missed quite a bit of class. I'm sure my students gave the substitute their due respect and properly quizzed them on quantum physics!

Well, back to work preparing the pop quizzes.

Well, if it's to benefit science, I don't suppose I could pass that up, really. Being part of the science department and all... I almost have to. Then again I'd go anyway just for kicks and giggles. A gala. Gaaaalaaa. Low 'a' said with a snobby tone sounds best. interesting word. We do like our fancy dress here, don't we?

Feeling particularly in need of distractions. Now that I think about it on that related note I should probably attend any mass gatherings anyway, just in case.

Well, I'm back! Didn't mean to be gone so long and sorry for not announcing my little, let's call it a vacation, but here we are! Actually I only meant to be gone for about, oh, half of a second local time but sometimes we overshoot or the time coordinates were just a tad off which reminds me I should find out why... Where was I? Oh! Rose! How's that phone working out? I notice you tried to call. Sorry about that, TARDIS phone was off.

Of course, I'll be teaching Physics again, so I look forward to all the bright faces ready to learn, to soak up knowledge like so many sponges that squish and ooze with knew thoughts. And let's not forget my History students! Good luck to all of you delvers into things passed.

.... I ran out of pages in my diary. Not this one mind, the one that you can't read. That means you, too, Rose. This is the second diary I've burned through. That's a sure sign that I'm not as young as I once was. Of course, nothing wrong with having some experience behind you. At least I'm not gray anymore. Grew out of that phase long ago.. back when I was still working on my first diary, now that I think of it. Where did I put that thing.... memory going... that can't be good.

Actually, now that I think of it. I'm not quite THAT old yet, that diary should have lasted me another fifty years or so... Guess I've just been rambling. .. well, being verbose.. well, yes rambling. I'm definitely rambling.

Sorry. I've had a bit on my mind... certain things have been too quiet... Not going into details. If you want those kinds of details you'll have to read my diary... but you can't.

Rose, I know there are more important things going on, maybe, but I couldn't help but bring it up. I spotted none other than Captain Jack Harkness out on the sidewalk from my quad window the other day. Didn't pop down to say hi since I was brushing my teeth at the time, but still. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure he was at the dance. I'd brushed off the notion at the time, of course, what with the masks and crowds. Looks like he's been here a while. No kidding! I looked it up! Fancy that.

Rose, it's not what you thought it was. I did some analysis on it... it's made from metals you can find around here, but it's trying very hard to be exactly what it looked like, even though it's not. Anyway, that's bad. It means that either this is a very bizarre coincidence, or somebody out there, somewhere, is trying to make one. Whereabouts did you find it, again?

Private Rose
Now that I think about it, any further talk of this should be a private. Do me a favor, too, call me "Dr. Smith" instead of just 'Doctor' on these journals. Just in case, although I can't imagine it would make much of a difference. Let's not worry too much yet, in any case.

Well, I've got a whole quad to myself here. Been that way for a short while actually. That's okay, I'm used to being alone. The point, however, is that I've been able to make some decorating decisions and living area changes that I probably wouldn't have gotten away with otherwise. I hope whomever moves in here next isn't the type to be baffled by a dimensionally transcendental ice box. Of course, this might be a sign of one having too much time on their hands. Rose is right, things have calmed down and in fact I can't find any more traces of our most recent nefarious fellow. I can't believe it but he may have simply buggered off. Of course, I expect him to turn up again, as most villains I run across tend to do.

Well, so what else is new? Bitten by the redecoration bug in general, I suppose. Grades are all finished up and finalized and loose ends are tying themselves as we speak. All seems well in the world of physics. Oh, and History seems to be running it's usual, happy course.

So much for updates, next order of business is to find somewhere really fantastic to take Rose before she starts vandalizing the TARDIS out of boredom.

Finals are looking good, well, for the most part, well, for some of you at least. Other students, well, you're trying and that's the important thing. Most are getting good marks in the end.

{private~Rose}

I know you've recovered physically, but you've been going out and about.... on the town, shall we say.. you know.. with that .. Ace fellow.. and then.. well anyway, the thing is all those protections in your room aren't quite portable and we still have a psychopathic wand wielding maniac on the loose somewhere even if he has lost a bit of interest. That crystal working for you, by the way?

I suppose, though, that you can't really stay cooped up forever...

{private}

That reminds me: Note to self, look over findings from Dumbledore's wand again. I know I promised not to make one but... if I keep it in the TARDIS and don't tell him... nono. That wouldn't be right. Maybe I can make a sort of.. shielding device instead. The theory is there... after all from what I can tell the magic is science... just a different type.

Okay, so I've been seeing posts and talk of monsters. Normally that's the sort of thing I would be all over and interested in. I hate to admit it but I've been preoccupied with things that I really don't think are related. I think there are enough excellent people here to handle this sort of thing without me! So go get 'em, guys!
